My friends had been urging me to get an air fryer for a long time. I resisted because I did not think I would use it that much. Boy, was I wrong! I use it every day and sometimes several times a day; from toasting to bake to air fry. There are multiple settings; air fry, broil, bake, pizza, bagel, dehydrate and toast. I have used every setting (except dehydrate) and all perform beautifully. I have not used my wall oven since I got this. You can cook so many things in the air fryer; meat, fish, vegetables etc. Just Google your food item recipe for air fryer. Btw, it preheats in seconds (literally) and food tastes even better.
In addition, the oven flips up when not in use to free up counter space.
Big savings on electricity too.
I love it so much; worth every penny!
I can definitely see why the previous owner might have returned it, though. The power cord is comically short – barely an arm's length! This means you really have to think about your kitchen setup and where you'll plug it in, as it limits placement options considerably. It's a baffling design choice for an otherwise excellent appliance.
Despite that one glaring flaw, the rest of the machine is exceptionally well-built. If you can work around the short cord, this air fryer is an absolute winner, especially if you can find it at a discount!
When flipped up, it does give me back about 4 cubic feet of counter.
There's a bit of a learning curve with using the toast function to know which settings will get you the results you want. The different functions do work well (haven't used dehydrate yet).
It is noisier than a standard toaster oven or standard large oven. I am fine with trading noise for fast cooking.
The biggest con is that the placement of the top heating elements can lead to uneven cooking. I just take the spacing of the three elements into account when arranging my food. Especially if baking cookies, make sure they are not directly underneath a heating element.
The model I have with the removable back piece is very easy to clean inside. You have to use a stainless steel cleaner on the outside to remove water spots.
We don't need the big oven much now.
Today I put it to its first test: a frozen pizza. A triumph! I selected the Pizza function and specified 425F as instructed on the box. Preheating was very quick (not like the 30 minutes or so with the big oven). I put the pizza on the rack, again as per instructions. And then I watched until the cheese in the center of the pizza was melted (the light really works). It was done in about 10 minutes, faster than the shortest time on the instructions, and it was perfect: possibly the best frozen pizza I ever ate.
This is a great little oven.
It’s surprisingly quiet, even when air frying, and I haven’t had any issues with weird noises or overheating. No leakage either—everything stays clean and contained inside, which I really appreciate.
It feels sturdy and well-built, not flimsy like some compact appliances. The size is perfect for smaller kitchens or limited counter space, and the flip-up feature is a game changer—it frees up so much room when not in use.
Best of all, it’s super easy to use. The controls are straightforward, and it heats up fast. If you’re looking for a reliable, space-saving appliance that can handle a lot, this one’s totally worth it!
I LOVE few products, but i sure love this thing! Everything comes out perfect - especially breaded foods like shrimp, nuggets, french fries/onion rings and so on —- because you can lay them out flat. It does an amazing job with pot pies and quiche too - which surprised me. a 10 inch pie plate totally fits.
I still use my double full size convection oven often, but i use this much more often. 5 stars for me…. except toast is 3 stars - i still use a toaster for that.

This little thing is just amazing. Not only will it efficiently toast your breads, it will bake, broil and air fry perfectly and easily. The build on this is better than any other brand like Cuisinart, Breville, etc at less than half the price. 6 heating elements, 3 on top and 3 on bottom. The ones on the bottom are covered with a metal grate that prevents them from being damaged. Temp control is perfect. Will air fry veggies, potatoes or anything better and in less time than if you did it yourself. Very small footprint AND it does fold up vertically. Because of its height, you can’t cook a whole chicken but, of course, you can do it cut up. It would be nice if, like its brother, the bottom could open, but that’s not a reason to not buy it. Would buy this again in a second!
Edit: although I have loved it I started to see the cons. You can’t just use the rack as it will drip on to the heating racks. I have tried cleaning them but the whole house turns Smokey when using now. I would not rebuy and will Probly be looking for something new now.

Innovative Design & Flip Feature:
The flip function is genius! The compact design makes it perfect for small kitchens, and it saves counter space. It flips open to provide a wider cooking area when you need it, and flips closed for convenient storage when you’re done. It’s super easy to use, and the flip action just feels smooth and sturdy. I love that I can go from frying crispy fries to baking a small batch of cookies, all in one machine with just a flip. The versatility of this design is a game-changer.
Crispy, Delicious Results Every Time:
The Ninja Flip Air Fryer delivers perfectly crispy food with less oil, and that’s what I love most. It’s like having the crispy texture of deep frying, but with a fraction of the fat and calories. I’ve made everything from chicken wings to sweet potato fries, and they all come out golden and crisp without the greasy mess. It’s truly a healthier way to enjoy all my favorite crispy snacks!
User-Friendly and Intuitive Controls:
The control panel is incredibly easy to navigate, with clear, simple settings that take the guesswork out of cooking. The temperature and time adjustments are precise, and the pre-programmed settings for things like fries, chicken, and veggies ensure perfect results every time. I also love the smart flip function—the cooking basket flips to ensure even cooking, so no need to shake or flip halfway through. It makes everything so much easier.
Versatile and Quick Cooking:
From air frying to roasting, reheating, baking, and even dehydrating, this air fryer does it all. It’s incredibly versatile for everything from crispy snacks to full meals. The cooking time is super fast, so even when I’m in a rush, I can have a tasty, healthy meal ready in minutes. It’s a lifesaver when I need to prep a meal after a long day at work or when I want to quickly make a snack.
Easy to Clean:
Cleaning is a breeze! The basket and tray are non-stick, so food doesn’t cling or burn, and they’re both dishwasher safe, which makes cleanup effortless. I’ve never had any issues with food residue sticking to the inside, and it’s so much easier than cleaning up after traditional frying. A quick wipe of the exterior and a rinse of the basket, and I’m done.
Space-Saving & Stylish:
I’m really impressed by how compact this air fryer is—it's not bulky at all, so it doesn't take up much space on my countertop. The sleek, modern design looks great in my kitchen, and it’s easy to store away when not in use. The flip feature also makes it easy to tuck away without occupying too much room.
Final Thoughts:
If you’re in the market for an air fryer, the Ninja Flip Air Fryer is hands down the best one I’ve used. It’s fast, versatile, easy to clean, and delivers perfectly cooked food every time. I’ve used it daily since I got it, and I can’t recommend it enough. Whether you’re cooking for yourself or the whole family, it’s a must-have kitchen appliance that will change the way you cook for the better. Five stars all the way!
However! Watch out! The wire rack slides out, at at the half way point will tip down. Meaning..... whatever is on the rack tips down with it and thereby slides off, flips over and spills your entire pan meal onto the kitchen floor. AHHHH!! Seeing all those nice veggies and beautifully browned chicken on the floor is really sad. (from experience, the clean up took me 20 minutes and I had to remake dinner). But I like it, buy one, you won't be sorry, just watch out for that tipping point on the rack.
If your bottom line is the end result, this unit cooks very well, heats and cooks quickly.
But... there is a learning curve before you understand the various settings (mostly via two buttons and a dial), to control temperature, time, darkness, slices, and other decisions required to complete your task. You will NEED to keep the manual handy until you acquire this required learning!
There is a banner-like piece of paper that states not to use olive oil, butter, or margarine. It suggests canola, grapeseed or avocado oil. This is NOT mentioned in the manual or the quick start guide. Mot recipes I read online used olive oil. My assumption is that olive oil, butter, and margarine have low smoke points so they are not good choices for this type of cooking. I do not plan to determine if I am correct.
Before you "flip" the unit, you will need to wait for it to tell you it has cooled down. Then you will want (need?) to clean out the unit enough so that you do not get any crumbs or other debris into the back of the unit. You are likely to just leave it laying down and unplugging it instead of the wait time and cleaning needed before you can flip it. You can clean the unit via the "easily accessible back panel" on the bottom. Much easier than cleaning through the front of the unit. I wouldn't refer to this unit as "easy cleaning". They do not tell you that you HAVE to spray oil on the basket or broil/roast/bake pan. Anything that can stick to the basket and/or pan will leave you with a royal pain to clean! I have yet to try putting the basket or pan in the dishwasher. I will likely have to scrape off most of the debris before doing so.
I don't think "large capacity" is accurate. It is a good length/width but not very tall. You have about 4 inches above the broil/roast pan. Even less for the air fryer basket. Barely tall enough for a chicken breast.
I don't regret this purchase. Yet.
Update: I used the air fryer with the grill pan below and cooked breaded fish and shrimp. I brushed the fryer basket and grill pan with grapeseed oil. Some of the food stuck to the fryer basket. The drippings in the broil pan were impossible to clean! They state that you should not use scouring products like steel wool. I did my best to clean the basket and pan. I shredded a scour sponge trying to get them clean. I will have to live with the fact that it will not be spotless. "Easy cleaning" basically implies easy ACCESS to clean the unit. Since you can remove all of the tray, pan, rack, etc and then open the bottom of the unit, THAT is what provides the access to all areas. You will still have a job on your hands to clean this unit.
Perhaps a different type of oil will reduce or eliminate the sticking and reduce the elbow grease required to keep this thing clean.
The outside of the oven does get VERY HOT. Hot enough to burn so you should be careful no children can touch it and probably keep plastic dishware away from it.
Obviously if the oven is hot, it's adding radiant heat to the room, but I haven't felt any increased heat. The oven itself is hot but I don't feel the extra heat even a few inches away! Like I said, I haven't felt the need to carry it outside even though that is why I bought it. It doesn't blow hot air into the room like my oven and my old toaster oven.
I'm glad I read someone else's review that mentioned the SP101 is easier to clean than newer models. This is so easy to clean! Not only can you remove the bottom tray, FINALLY a toaster oven that lets you open the bottom of the oven! An especially nice feature given the size of this oven. It would be impossible to clean if the bottom didn't open.
Buttons aren't intuitive (and I can't read them without glasses), but they were easy to learn: On, Function, Timer, Temperature, Start. It's nice that it remembers the function (bake, broil, etc) and time and temp last used, but I haven't baked the same item twice in a row. I like that it turns off automatically when the time runs out.
In addition to broiling lamb chops, I have baked muffins and cookies and mini cheesecakes. The first batch of muffins burned because I didn't know to adjust for convection baking. Since then, so far, my recipes have turned out as expected when I've reduced the heat 25°F and reduced the baking time 25%.
The flip up feature is very nice and an efficient use of space. I think that novelty might wear off in my household. A month from now, it'll likely remain in the down position for convenience and laziness.
I've only broiled and baked so far - I haven't even made toast yet. (Palm to forehead: I just realized I ate bread instead of toast with dinner tonight.) I'm looking forward to trying the other features.
I wish the interior was about 1" taller, but I wouldn't trade that for the ridiculously fast preheating or for the chance that it'd put more heat into the room. I picked this size for its potential portability and I love what I got even if it never moves.
P.S. I discovered 12" square x 1/8" thick plate aluminum makes great cookie sheets for my Ninja! 1/16" thick would also work.
Pros:
- I love the form factor. It is big enough to hold a "single sheet meal" more than sufficient for two people, no problem, but the device isn't so tall or bulky that it permanently swallows up a ton of counter space. This oven is only a slightly larger overall footprint than the small toaster ovens I have used in the past, but the slight increase is totally worth it. It easily fits a standard 13" store-bought frozen pizza, and cooks them perfectly. Other competing models (Breville, Cosori, Cuisinart) are more like second, full-sized ovens that happen to sit on your counter. The fact that this one is shorter and flips up and completely out of the way when not in use is an absolute game changer! It really does save a ton of counter space, which is a valuable premium in our small kitchen.
- It comes up to temperature faster than literally anything else out there. This oven comes up to temperature in literally less than a minute! That's significantly faster than the competition, and of course, way faster than your normal full-sized oven. (We barely use our full-sized oven anymore.) I don't bother "pre-heating" it before putting my food in, as it heats up so quickly as to make that pointless. It is so efficient as an oven that occasionally you do have to shorten recipe times to prevent overcooking your meals.
- This is single-handedly the best bread / bagel toaster I have ever used, bar none. I always loved the flexibility of a toaster oven to accommodate small food items that were too big (or otherwise inappropriate) for a sliced toaster, but too small to waste heating up the full over for, etc. And microwaved food doesn't "crisp" or "brown" things at all. But making actual toast was occasionally an afterthought for my old toaster ovens, especially since I'd always had the analog "wind up timer" controls that were wildly inconsistent and unpredictable. You always had to closely monitor them for fear of burning / overcooking your toast or bagels / muffins, etc. Due to the digital time and heat control, this toaster oven makes the most perfectly consistent toast I have ever had. Once you determine your preferred "doneness" setting, your toast will always be perfect...every...single...time. It even accounts for the number of slices of bread / bagels, etc., and slightly extends the time when you have additional (up to NINE) slices in a single go. It sounds a little nuts to be so excited about toast, but this is, for real, the best toaster ever.
- I like that this model has the fold down bottom door, so with all trays/racks removed (including the crumb tray,) you can easily clean the inside when it is flipped up. Ninja eliminated that feature in later flip-up models (shame on you Ninja!) so if that feature is important to you, be sure to get the SP101, and not a later variant.
- The different cooking modes are super flexible and easy to use. While I was (and still am) skeptical of "aIr frying" as a concept (let's be real, it's really just a small convection oven, there is no "magic" behind air frying,) the multiple different cooking modes (8 for the SP101) are very handy and easy to use. I do like breaded chicken items and fried potato products (tater tots, etc.) using the air fry basket. We regularly use the "one sheet" baking tray cooking method to make air-roasted veggies with chicken, pork, or even beef hamburger patties, and it's extremely convenient! (Note: The manual says not to use aluminum foil with the baking sheet, but I hate cleaning if I don't have to, and I have had no issues using aluminum foil to line it...other than the fact that the drip tray/baking sheet is too wide for a single sheet of standard aluminum foil, so super wet or drippy food like bacon will require quick cleaning, but still better using foil than without.)
- I love the digital controls and consistent heat control. The temperature isn't 100% perfect in terms of accuracy, but it's way more accurate than old-school, analog temperature controls. I appreciate the digital timer, and love that the oven light comes on automatically with 30 seconds remaining in your oven time.
- Aesthetically, I like the slight curve to the top where the timer / temperature display is. Later flip-up, or other larger models have a basic, boring, "flat" look. The visibility into the oven is better for this model than other later models as well, IMHO. (Later models also have a painted black bezel on the front glass for some reason.) This is a minor thing, but I definitely like the look of the SP101 better than similar, later models.
Cons:
- This oven is a little short, so you won't be making full sized chickens or turkeys, but that is what your full sized over is for anyway. As a result of the low height, with the drip tray on the wire rack, the use of the air fry basket doesn't always get the best air circulation. (I leave the wire rack in with the wires on top, so its easier to get your toast out when used as a toaster, but that reduces the space between the air fry basket and the drip/baking tray even more. Yes, you can flip the wire rack when using as an air fryer to give a *little* extra space, but I'm lazy, and it's really not much difference.) If there were even a half inch more space between the bottom of the fry basket and the drip tray, it would be better.
- Similarly, due to the lower height, there aren't as many rack / spacing options. You can: 1. Use as a toaster, with bread/food directly on the wire rack. 2. Use as a roaster / broiler/ oven with the baking tray sitting directly on the wire rack, 3. Use the air fry basket, with or without the baking/drip tray (although we've never used without the baking tray as a drip tray, however, as I am paranoid something will drip on the heating elements and flare up or otherwise smoke...plus we don't want to have to clean the interior of the oven very often.) As noted above, the air circulation could be better when using the fry basket with the drip tray. If Ninja simply made the baking tray big enough to slide directly into the slot for the wire rack, this would solve the spacing issue, but perhaps it would negatively impact air circulation.
- The air fry basket is a bit of a PITA to clean. Sponges or scotch-brite pads will quickly get destroyed and shred to pieces when trying to clean the basket after making chicken wings or other similarly fatty/drippy foods. A small brass wire brush is the only effective cleaning solution here. Go ahead and buy one now. You will thank me later. The air fry basket and baking tray are technically both dishwasher safe, but I have only ever hand washed these, as I am a little finicky. I wouldn't trust a dishwasher to be able to remove baked on crud out of the air fry basket, for sure.
- First time use smell. It is noted in the manual that the oven interior should thoroughly wiped down and then run on it's highest temperature setting for several hours (without food in it) to burn off any production residue, etc. I strongly recommend doing this initial "burn off" somewhere with VERY GOOD ventilation. Outdoors, if you can. The fumes this thing cranked out when we did this initial cleaning cook were noxious and not pleasant at all. (My GF had to take refuge in the basement until I was able to air out our kitchen.) It was totally fine after that, and has been great ever since, but I would definitely run this thing outside if possible the first time.
Overall, I am VERY happy with this toaster oven, and can STRONGLY recommend it for anyone who wants the features of an oven, air fryer, and toaster all wrapped up into one, but doesn't want another huge appliance sucking up a ton of precious counter space. It is absolutely perfect for small kitchens or when you want oven baked food, but don't want to heat up a full sized oven. One and two person meals are a snap in this thing, and it is just incredibly convenient and efficient.
I looked at other options but they seemed huge (in size). One of the complaints I have read about the Ninja SP101 is that it is smaller. It is. It is good sized in depth and width but lacks (for some) in height. For me, that works but even when I made a good sized amount of nachos I had to press it down a bit so it didn't get too near the heating element. I am single and cook for 1-2 people and this is ideal. It takes up a bit larger footprint than my ancient Samsung but is lower profile. I don't mind the lower profile (I prefer it) and unless you are wanting to cook multiple items or any foods that are higher vertical then this is fine. It also looks good sitting on my counter.
PROS:
I like the controls and after a short learning curve is pretty simple to use.
This pre-heats up quickly and cooks fast.
The first item I cooked was frozen fries and used the Air Fryer. The fries were crisp and tasty. I was very happy with this.
I toasted bread and bagels and it seemed to toast fairly uniformly taking a bit longer that I thought it would considering how powerful this oven is. I'm good with this.
I used Air Broil to make nachos and it was perfect and quick!
I used Bake to make some cookies and used parchment paper and it worked well.
I ordered the casserole dish, thinking the higher sides would help prevent messes. Last night I cooked a wok dinner with tofu cubes, peppers, onions, noodles (boiled first), carrots, broccoli, celery and cashews with a teriyaki marinade. OMG, this was so good and no messes and the new casserole dish is non stick and although lighter and most likely cheaper (in quality), I prefer using this to the pan that came with the oven. Dinner was delicious!
I have not used Dehydrate and Keep Warm functions yet.
The light is a nice feature.
CONS:
During Air Fry the left front corner seems to cook hotter and burnt the edges of my french fries in this corner. The fries (in just this corner) were still edible just blackened.
I have read that some customers thought the oven was difficult to clean. The sheet pan included with the oven is heavier than the casserole dish I later purchased but it seems more difficult to clean, as I had to make a few attempts to remove cheese. The surface is not smooth and has small bumps on it that concern me, but really not with reason as of yet. My main focus is to keep the oven clean and prevent splattering and boil overs as the heating elements are exposed and I feel are vulnerable. I will be using parchment paper and using the casserole dish more than the sheet pan. I have not made pizza yet but my concern here is that if I set the pizza on the rack there is nothing below it to catch any potential mess and can fall on the heating elements. There is the crumb tray but that is below the heating element. My initial thought was to place the cooking sheet under the wire rack but the sheet (and casserole dish) are designed to sit on top of the rack and don't use the grooves on the sides to support itself. I tested out putting the crumb tray directly under the wire rack and it does fit so this would protect the heating element but if I'm going to do this, I probably should just use the cooking sheet pan instead. I have often considered putting a silicone baking sheet under the wire rack to catch any drippings or mess but, again, does this defeat the open cooking of using the wire rack? I'd prefer to cook a pizza in a pan rather than drip on the heating element as my biggest concern (from other reviews) was that once it drips on the element it is nearly impossible to clean. Right now I am operating under the delusion of keeping the SP101 new but this is not practical (for any oven).
It would be nice if the tray was spring loaded and would come out when the door was opened. You must manually pull out the tray or wire rack to remove from oven so you really need to have oven mitts at the ready to even add ingredients.
My Air Fry Basket has a minor defect in the middle of it but is minor.
Other:
I don't use the flip feature as I'm OK with its footprint and as I said earlier, it looks good sitting on the counter. But the flip feature does work well and if you are interested in this feature it seems worthwhile.
I have been pulling the oven out when I use it to keep the cord away from the oven and giving it more space to ventilate. I have a plastic can opener mounted above where I use the oven. Even after a 450 degree cooking the can opener is warm to the touch but does not get too hot. The sides of the oven don't get overly hot (but the glass does). This seems well built and I probably don't need to pull it out but will continue to do so.
I don't think I will ever have a reason to use my regular oven again. This oven is big enough (for my cooking needs) and this oven pre-heats so much faster than my big oven, cooks more evenly and is more convenient. I am going to give my big oven a good cleaning and know it will stay clean as I probably won't use it again.
This oven is a good air fryer and I am impressed with the results, but I have never had an air fryer before. All the other functions seem really good. The wire rack and sheet pan are sturdy but I wish the sheet pan could support itself using the rails like how the air fry basket does. The air fry basket is flexible but still sturdy and mine had a minor defect. The crumb try is fine. I really like the added casserole tray. I would highly recommend this product unless you need or want the extra height of the Cuisinart TOA60. The Cuisinart, after reading reviews, was my first pick but after looking at the overall footprint, I decided against it. I am happy with the size and performance of the Ninja SP101.
I will update this only if I have some issue with the oven.
